A picture says a thousand words

Check out this picture.

Sometimes a thousand words just aren't enough.
Sometimes no words will ever do.

Comments:
i dont see nething too wrong with it.Jesus was always blunt. He spoke it like it was.Why cant we?I get annoyed coz ppl like to say that 'it was different back then' wen really its always been the same.

and also its is the gospel and hes not ashamed of it.

If its not a challenge to unsaved people maybe its a challenge to christians?Do we actually care about the millions of people going to hell?

i rekon the van would confront people which is good.I do think He needs more of the good news on there though!Cant have the sin, hell and death stuff without the cross!

from guess who?

Jesus wasn't always blunt.
He spoke in parables and encouraged people to think about what he had to say.

The people he was blunt with were the people who were supposed to 'know' God.
ie. the Pharisees and his own disciples.

The gospel is not a gospel of condemnation, as the words on the bus proclaim.

Jesus is not a God of condemnation, but of liberation.

The van wouldn't confront people.
It turns people off and it reinforces the image that Christians are judgemental bigots.

It is a classic case of why more and more people are stopping calling themselves 'Christian', because they don't associate much of Christ with those who have the loudest clanging gongs and proclaim what it is to be 'Christian'

I think WOW is what I can say about that. I mean, imagine driving around in that where there's MEGA anti-Christians. But yeah...weird I think like Mel. Mmm...it's great that he can do that, but MAYBE a little overdone. Not sure though.

Jesus' parables were blunt. They told people things they didnt want to hear!Just like the van is.

Jesus is about liberation. But if there is no condemnation what are we liberated from?

Who condemns people then?

God is a just God. Sinners who do not repent will be punished.

Someone who gets up and tells people their sins is more of a Christian than those who try to tell people 'Im just like you' and doesnt confront or challenge people and chooses not to talk about sin and punishment because it 'might offend people and make them think Christians are bigots'

what is on the van is truth.People without Jesus are destined for hell, punishment and death, all assigned by God.

The van does need more of the good news though. We both agree on that.

The problem is that most churches these days are shrinking away from the God that punishes sinners and are going too far left in response to the churches that are too far right.

We need an equal dose of sinners are going to hell and belivers in Jesus getting saved...

James

Show me one parable where Jesus condemns sinners.

Alot of the people I know don't need to be liberated from condemnation, they need to be liberated from the junk that happens in their life here and now.
Temporal Salvation is what our Salvo forefathers called it.

I would be very careful labelling someone "more of a Christian", that is a very subjective position to be arguing from.

You said, "We need an equal dose of sinners are going to hell and belivers in Jesus getting saved..."
Where do we see either of these points in the preaching of Jesus?
Jesus talked alot more about money than he did about Hell.
As a student at a theological college I am sure you know that Hell is only mentioned a handful of times in the gospels.
it doesn't even rate a huge mention in Paul's writings.

hey i think the van is really good! i do agree that there needs to be some good new as well as the bad but i also hate it when christians only talk to non christians about the good stuff cos then how are we ment to show people what will happen if they dont believe in God. Sometimes u really need to be out there and come accross strong as General Eva Barrows mentioned "rather someone come accross strong than not at all"

Show me one parable where Jesus condemns sinners.

There’s more than this but Matthew 13:2430 and explained in 36-43

Alot of the people I know don't need to be liberated from condemnation,

So are you saying you know no people who are not saved, or you don’t think anyone is going to go to hell?

they need to be liberated from the junk that happens in their life here and now.
Temporal Salvation is what our Salvo forefathers called it.

But at the same time our salvo forefathers were trying to get the world saved from hell! It wasn’t only temporal salvation! It was eternal salvation too! Eternity is a lot longer than the 80 years we’ll spend on Earth…

I would be very careful labelling someone "more of a Christian", that is a very subjective position to be arguing from.

Point taken. I was referring to the fact that we need to show love for people, it’s the greatest command, how can you let someone go to hell and not care? There is no love in sweeping something under the floor because you’re too scared to offend them.

You said, "We need an equal dose of sinners are going to hell and belivers in Jesus getting saved..."
Where do we see either of these points in the preaching of Jesus?

John 3:16-18
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son” said Jesus!

Jesus talked alot more about money than he did about Hell.

No He didn’t! Jesus mentions hell, judgment, weeping and gnashing of teeth, darkness etc so much more than money! He mentions hell in HEAPS of passages! It’s normally a ‘do this or hell…’ If you don’t believe me, read Matthew and make a table and count…That’s what I did…

As a student at a theological college I am sure you know that Hell is only mentioned a handful of times in the gospels.

It’s mentioned a lot! Re-read them! It doesn’t have sermons etc on them, but there are HEAPS of warnings!

it doesn't even rate a huge mention in Paul's writings.

Paul does speak about it! Romans 1, 2 and 6, 1 Corinthians 6, Galatians 1 just from the top of my head… Let’s not forget, ‘For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ!’

Anyway, I wonder what type of theology you have that only picks pieces of the Bible and not the whole thing. For example you’ve mentioned the preaching of Jesus and the writings of Paul. A good Biblical theology will show that sin is a massive problem, sin will be judged and punished, however, Jesus Christ came to die and rise again to forgive those who have faith in Jesus Christ for our sins, justifying us before the father so that we may have eternal life with Him! Hallelujah!

And hence the reason we should tell people about hell sometimes! After all it is the truth.

James
